This Book of Kells Dress Brooch in sterling silver features an intertwined lacing cord design, the continuous patter creates a circular shape. This design is hand-finished in our workshop in Orkney.
This collection is based on a beautiful illuminated Gospel book from the late 8th Century. The pattern of intertwining cords is derived from Eastern and Celtic art, and passed into the repertoire of British and Irish artists from the 6th to 9th Century. The interlacing design is found on metalwork and sculpted stone, as well as illuminated Gospel Books.
